Would anyone mind testing this for me ? Even on the L5520 as they are very similar TDP from memory (Just one of those plugin power meters)
My Home Lab needs an upgrade, as the x3850's are finally sold :) hehe
I had only one node actually plugged in with one CPU (L5520) and no disks and it pulled 80W at post.

Thanks Madhelp

I was thinking of having 1 node always running with a single CPU, so about 80w at idle is what I'm looking at (My E3-1245v2 pulls about 70w with mild load already)
I'm suprised with the popularity of the C6100 as lab servers, there is not a lot more power info out there

The first post of this thread indicates 4 nodes at idle draw a total of 174w ..... hmm

Still checking with ebay seller on various items before placing the order, pdneiman is a bit slow replying :(

I'll be joining you guys soon as I'll have my 4 node L5520 w/ 192GB this coming Wednesday. A few questions if you don't mind...

1.) Does the On-Board sata controller support sata 3?
2.) Would this dual-port adapter fit OK in the PCI-E expansion?

Thanks!

1) No. On board SATA is SATA-2 only.
2) Yes. Low Profile, half depth so it should fit just fine.

Hi again C6100 guru's
I have the following PICE cards, and wondering if they might fit

1) Dual port 8GB FC qLogic QLE2562
2) Quad port Intel Pro 1000/pt (This look larger then the previous person asked about)

Thanks

Hey guys.

I just got my C6100 but its drive caddies doesn't seem to allow a 2.5" SSD drive, unlike the C1100s. Do I need an 3.5" to 2.5" adapter?

I will be using this with Crucial M500 SSD.

Think I just answered my own question
People reportedly are using the IBM M1015 SAS card, well I have one of those in my spare parts here
The two cards I mentioned are actually the same size, in which case they should fit :)

Couple of questions:

1. Will this card (LSI Internal SATA/SAS 9201-8i) fit in a node. Also, will I be able to route the cable to an external sas array?

LSI Internal SATA SAS 9201 8i 6GB s PCI Express 2 0 RAID Controller Card S | eBay

2. The 96gb and 192 gb memory modules that you see on ebay. Is it ECC buffered?

3. What is the current best price to get them.
The 9201-8i will fit, but with the cables facing the end of the card you won't be able to get the cables run w/out running into the CPU heatsink.

For memory you need DDR3 Registered ECC. Dell has a QVL on their site if you want to be certain of compatibility.

Prices are per market. They vary widely. Shop victoriously!

Thanks for everyone who helped answer my questions (and for all of the other helpful information on this thread). Here's what I ended up getting

1 Dell C6100 8x 2.93 GHz X5570 server with 192 Gig RAM single power supply
1 DELL 1100W power supply
4 QDR VPI Dual Port 40 Gb/s Infiniband daughter cards
4 40 Gbit/sec QDR cables
1 QLogic 12300 Edge 36 port QDR Infiniband Switch
1 LSI 9265-81 plus CacheCade 2.0
2 Samsung 840 Pro 256g SDD
6 WD 4TB RE Drives
2 3Ware 1M breakout cable (SFF-8087)
2 Silvertek 3.5 to 2.5 bay converter

I'm going to put the raid card in one node and rewire things so the 8 drives connect to that. Two SSD drives for cachecade, 6 WD RE drives for a 16 TB raid 50. The infiniband cards + switch connect the nodes together so they can share the raid drive.

May I ask where did you get the daughter QDR cards? I am looking for them too.
The Dell part number is JR3P1. Make sure that you are getting the metal mounting bracket - many of the ones for sale don't have it. Bonus points if you find one that comes with the mezzanine riser board, which is worth $22 or so.

If you can't find any, let me know. I have eight extras that I can sell in about a week.

I sent you PM dba. Also alan, I forgot to ask about the switch too. I couldn't edit my post on my phone lol.

Alan,

It looks like the mezzanine cards that you bought don't have the mounting brackets. Any chance that you can return them?

Here is a card that does have the rear mounting bracket that surrounds the ports and extends to attach to the sled:
