Tempted with the ability to finally load up my r410 with ram. But it uses that 3-bank 4 dimm slot design so I'm not sure how many I would need to optimize the channels.

Oh Googleing the r410 the memory layout sounds strange... but I guess no reason you can’t load it up to 8x16=128, any Dell guru’s can confirm ?

I thought most servers on 5500/5600 had 6 or 9 slots per cpu being 2dpc or 3dpc designs. Now I do seem to remember you can’t use DDR3L in the 3dpc config, the memory controller can’t handle it or something like that so the effective config was 12x16gb=192gb for a dual board, or using non ‘L’ ram 18x8gb giving 144gb.
Populating the 3rd dpc always came as a speed reduction ! Anyway that’s off on a tangent since on r410 it looks like it’s 2dpc on bank 1 and single dpc on 2 & 3.

I've read the documentation several times as well as examples online, but it never seems definitive as to what exactly will work and what won't.

I know it can run ddr3l, and even if it can't, ddr3l by nature can run at the higher ddr3 voltage if necessary.

It has 4 slots per cpu, but divided into 3 banks--1,2, and 3/4. The last part of that is the confusing one as you may have to run two smaller modules to make the 3/4 bank the same size as 1 and 2. Either that or you can just run a single module and it will be the same size. Or you can run banks 1 and 2 and still have the optimal memory configuration (which doesn't make sense as it wouldn't be triple channel.

Lots of funkiness that makes the simple little 2gb x2 that I have in there a cakewalk by comparison (and probably slower too atm).

Hey Evan,

Weird request, feel free to say no. I am based in the UK, but I have an office in the US. Would you:

1) Be willing to sell just 4 of the memory modules (not fussed which just need them to work).
2) Accept payment from me via paypal (which is my uk paypal) but ship them to my office in NY?

Thanks!

@Evan - can you mark items that are no longer available/sold? Also, should I assume that these RAM modules are all meant for servers?
