If you ware able to access the options from #277 then you are on the modded BIOS. I'm just wondering if it was really the 06.08 version which had been installed. I've spent few hours trying different upgrade paths and was unable flash 06.08 nor the updated 02.07 without the freezing.

Hi everybody,

i fixed my problem with the keyboard in the modified HWP On - 02/07/2023: recommended Bios. While i tested i have not build in the nvme ssd. After i build in the nvme ssd there was no freeze when i going into the Advanced Part of the bios.

I tried all modified bios files from this thread. Everything works fine when the nvme ssd is installed.

I hope this information helps others with the keyboard problem.

Best regards

Dirk

small anecdote from me. i actually did the latest bios update with my nvme drive in place (i wanted to see what happens).
worked like a charm.
I used the ISO installer from the 06/08 BIOS, but replaced the BIOS file with my modified version. I also did not remove my nvme drive, and everything worked.

@pawasi @NodeRunner222 I had the same problem but re-read the documentation (for the 20th time) and realized we must reinstall the drive first. The BIOS is probably crashing trying to load the NVMe settings on that page.

In this documentation (畅网 12代酷睿U系列迷你主机BIOS更新), I didn't understand that I couldn't navigate to the documentation until the drive was installed, but it made a ton of sense when I followed the steps to completion:
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Can confirm this in fact does resolve the issue. Reinstalled the drive before the long delay and reboot and was able to enter the bios and navigate using the left and right keys on restart with all of the advanced menus present.

I can confirm that with drive installed, new versions of the modded bios are working fine! Thanks for the help!

Hi all

I was contemplating buying the i5 version of this directly from CWWK (no ram/no ssd) but then noticed the following on Amazon (UK) but branded as 'Tuofudun'.

2.5GbE Firewall Appliance, Intel Core i5 1235U, 10 Core up to 4.40GHz, 6 Intel I226 Ethernet, Sistema Barebone, Mini PC Router, TPM2.0/AES-Ni, Support pfSense/OPNsense : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

I've read through this thread and see there is multiple resellers, I'm assuming the product linked above is the exact same model as the CWWK model and will support both the bios that CWWK release and the modified bios in this thread?

I am also concerned about being charged import tax, do you think that is less likely if purchased from amazon?

Thanks in advance

Hi! Yeah, both products have the same specs, such as Intel Core i5 1235U processor, 10 cores up to 4.40GHz, 6 Intel I226 ethernet ports, and pfSense/OPNsense support. It's better to contact Amazon and ask if there is an import tax for iit.

You can ask seller, where he ships from.
I've ordered one device directly from CWWK and one from Amazon, because I've been under the impression, that it had been local shipping. It was still sent from China and it took longer than from CWWK...
Version from CWWK had internal fan and more accessories, and they also have superb after sales support, so if you need mounting kit etc. You can contact them before purchase and they will include it with your order.

I also had a great experience with CWWK directly on Aliexpress. I requested the gray case before ordering and they were happy to oblige. I was disappointed when the product arrived and it was black. When I contacted them they apologized for the error and sent me a gray case separately.

CWWK seems to be great providing support and post-sales stuff.

I just wish they could provide me an adapter for Mini PCI-e Wifi card, using the same type of adapter from the one we get to use SSD instead of M2 Wifi card. Unfortunately they don't have it and don't seem interested in making one for me :(

Thanks, I may go directly with CWWK, looks like it's possible to pay by Paypal too which is not available on Amazon.co.uk

I have just seen the following however and I am swaying towards the i3-N305 over the i5-1235U. Looks to be a little cheaper with performance only slightly reduced, 2 less interfaces - not sure I'd need 6, although do intend to use for both proxmox and have pfsense running as a vm. I like the idea of having the ability to run up to 4 nvme drives within the chassis, anybody else in similar mindframe and are considering going for this model? Or do you think it would be better going for the i5-1235U?

If you will go directly with CWWK, try asking them for a free i5-1240P upgrade :) A lot of people did get this free upgrade, including me in the past few days.
i5-1235U benchmarks show less than 13k points, while the i5-1240P you can get close to 22~23k.

I wouldn't use @Patrick's benchmarks to gauge the performance of the 1235U. Patrick benched with the stock BIOS, which is pretty limited. With my unlocked BIOS, I get a passmark of 19250/3600. Compare that to stock 1235U of 13650/3300 and stock N305 of 10300/2300.

I bench at 19k+ with the 1235U. The 1235U (55W max TDP) is right at the cusp of the max you can take advantage of anyway because with a fan on this box the thermal design can dissipate about 47W. The extra power of the 1240P (64W max TDP) can only be sustained for a short period before you lose it due to thermals. I'd take the 1240P if it was free, of course, but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

Oh I get it.
I was considering this as baseline:

I didn't know with your unlocked BIOS the 1235U could achieve 19k. That's good to know.

And yes, only take the 1240P if it's a free upgrade.

hi,
i am wondering if anyone was able to make the system to consume less then the 15-16 watts measure ?
i am talking about a very idle system, does nothing, with one nvme, no ssd, and only one ram module.

the reason i ask this is because, i also have n5100 system, and when it is idle it consume around 6 watts.

the 6 lan ports alone will probably consume 6 watts on their own.
if you want to reduce power usage further turn off unnecessary stuff in bios such as audio, maybe some usb, basically anything you wont be using. that should bring it down a little bit. but dont expect wonders :)
