Any new takes on this with FN11 ?
The biggest issue is that OmniOS is most likely dead. There is no replacement. Some are going to OpenIndiana but if I had to guess a lot are looking for an alternative.

Plus it depends on what you want and need. Freenas 11 looks good but is bloatware. I want a secure storage system so freenas would be last on my list. It is more important for me to be able to identify and replace a hard drive without drama or fault as well as secure storage, like a NAS should be. I have hot swap trays with lights to ID a drive. I don't need or want to label drive slots with serial numbers to find a drive. Anything with napp-it and ZFS works, right now it's OI minimal for me.
