CPU and HS not touching?

Just yanked the HS to change CPUs as I was just testing / updating with this one and when I yanked it this is what I saw.

You can see the pressure only on the edges? Due to how thick this paste is from factory?
Something to worry about?

Yeah I would check that out, maybe it wasn't tightened down all the way at the factory ?
I would def see what is going on, maybe something blocking the HS ?

The system was a 1U Intel barebones came new in package, I added CPU and only booted it to test as the PDU was bad originally I replaced it, it works, so maybe 5m of it running. I figured it would have been more smashed, but then thought maybe at 5m it didn't get hot enough (low power 2 core haswell) to melt it and properly touch, and only the edges melted it??

I plan to re-test with different paste and cpu and see what it does, and monitor temps.

Yeah it should be squashed pretty good.

Do the screws seat all the way down ?
The heat sink itself is not warped ?
