Hi lovely people, I have a quick question - title says it all.

I am looking to buy an SSD but it has only U.2 connector. My server has a SAS backplane. Can I connect my SSD directly to it, just like I do with my SATA drives?

Thanks!

This should explain why - your SAS backplane is meant for a SAS connector - and that doesn’t have the pins required for NVMe (which connects to a PCIe bus)

The SATA, SAS & U.2 connectors are physically *similar* but very different electrically...
