Can I run Arista 7050QX-32 without the unit's fans? (with home-made cooling)

Would Arista 7050QX-32 boot/run without any of the factory fans connected?

I plan to use only a few ports with DACs for a homelab setup. It should consume approx. 100W-120W with one PSU - link. I would put 4x 14mm or bigger fans with the cover off to dissipate the heat, while being much quieter at the same time.

I am sure it would complain either way, but would it boot at all?

Thanks!

I have a 7050QX-32S.

Your plan might work, but they get hot fast, even at idle. Power usage should be similar with one PSU or two - it just depends how many DACs/transceivers you plug in.

It will complain if the fans aren't installed, but it won't shut down unless it reaches critical temps.

If it doesn't work out, try using the stock fan modules, but replace the fans inside them with quieter noctua fans, or just turn the fan speed down to 30-40% if you're only using a few DACs.

Either way, keep a close eye on temps and you should be good.
