I am wondering if I purchase a copper transceiver for a Connect-X 4 (https://www.fs.com/products/139650.html) set to 2.5gb, is it possible the card will negotiate this rate? I don't see it on the datasheets, but I don't know if the driver perhaps added support after the publications.

probably not, u need this https://www.fs.com/de-en/products/89584.html?attribute=26&id=3537030

this will work at 2.5gb to a switch or nic
If one needs 2.5GBase-T using an SFP+ transceiver on a device that doesn't natively support it, one should really go with one based on an Aquantia chip. All others tend to have issues with bidirectional traffic.

Not sure what chip the module above uses, but the 10Gtek ASF-10G2-T (note the "2" in the model name) is readily available from Amazon. It's based on the Aquantia AQR113C.

Lots of them will appear to work, but have weird speed issues in certain cases. See the thread I linked for some context. There are other threads as well if I recall correctly.

Hopefully yours work well too though. :)

Thank you both! I've ordered the linked transceiver (10Gtek ASF-10G2-T) from Aliexpress, hopefully works!
