I've got an ASRock ROME2D16-2T board, which uses SlimSAS low profile (not normal SlimSAS)

What would be the best (cheapest) way to convert the SlimSAS low profile to U.2 / SFF 8639?

Two possibilities that I have identified:
- 2x Micro SATA cables LP-2033-OCU (Low Profile SlimSAS Strait 8i to OCulink 4 - Lane x2-Port Y-Cable, Low Profile SlimSAS Strait 8i to OCulink 4 - Lane x2-Port Y-Cable) + 4x Micro SATA cables OCU-1695-U2 (OCULINK to PCIe 4 GEN 4 16GT/s U.2 (SFF-8639) Adapter with 3.5 Inch Metal Frame, OCULINK to PCIe 4 GEN 4 16GT/s U.2 (SFF-8639) Adapter with 3.5 Inch Metal Frame)
-> 2x$40.75 + 4x $52.75 = $292,5 + shipping

- 2x Micro SATA cables LP-2033-OCU (Low Profile SlimSAS Strait 8i to OCulink 4 - Lane x2-Port Y-Cable, Low Profile SlimSAS Strait 8i to OCulink 4 - Lane x2-Port Y-Cable) + 1x Icy dock MB699VP-B V3
-> 2x $40.75 + 1x ~$375 = $456,50

This is all quite expensive, compared to a normal SlimSAS 8i to SFF 8639 cable which is about $60 per piece.

Any other ideas?

It might be cheaper to forego the motherboard LP ports altogether and get an inexpensive redriver card with more common connectors instead. Unless you have other plans for all the PCIe slots of course.

Also one would think that a "Layer 1 Magician" should be able to just conjure any cable they wish out of thin air.

Redriver is about $150, Retimer ~$190.. so not much cheaper than solution number 1 and I don't sacrifice another PCIe slot

I will use one Retimer card for the other SSDs, and I'm running out of PCIe slots.

That's Layer 0 ;) I can only debug why a cable isn't working

By inexpensive redriver I meant something like used Supermicro AOC-SLG3-4E4R for ~$60.

If you are still looking for a slimsas low profile to u.2 cable, I found this on ebay:

Slimsas-LP to U.2 43 cm cable

I purchased the cable. The cable seemingly has no problems handling pcie4 speeds with my Asrock Rack Romed8u-2t and a pair of Micron 7450s. I have ordered another cable for the other slimsas-lp port on that motherboard. The same seller also sells a 88cm version of the cable:

Slimsas-LP to U.2 88cm cable
