I've got 3 C6100 chassis I need to fill with 6 core CPUs, anyone have any quick ideas/thoughts on which of the 6-core 1366 Westmere-EP chips consume the least power while still offering the best bang for buck? I'm guessing the answer is going to be either L5639 or L5640 but am wondering if the X5650 is going to be just as power efficient in the long run to make it just worth getting instead.

Do you need single threaded performance? Do you have PSUs that can handle higher-power chips (not a trick question, many C6100's had PSUs that cannot.)

To me, I would focus on minimizing my investments in 7-year-old platforms and get the least expensive.

Not really, I wouldn't say I need monsters, I just want chips that can push the performance of 10K spinners with SSD caches per node. I have the typical 1100W PSUs.

With four nodes you can push close to a single 1100W with 95W Westmere-EP IIRC.
