You can disable tri mode in lsi utility. I have a 9400-16i and love it.

I'm using original very old NVME adapters, so these may be faster but I doubt slower
well see!Using 9400-16i's too.
At this price buy this for more functionality (and power use) rather than a bifurcated nvme u.2 adapter since its about the same price and you'll get way more use and flexibility.

@T_Minus - There is a larger discussion here in the Hardware section regarding these cards. These require expensive Broadcom U2 enabler cables to support NVME. Link to KB article
