Just purchased 2 Aquantia 5G/2.5G cards from Arrow Electronics.
    Lets see what I get.
First I should hook them up single short cable and verify that I get 5G.

I have Cat-5E wiring in the home with only 1 cable going to the garage home lab.
The rest of the rooms have 2 Cat-5E.

I plan to connect the 1 Cat-5E to the card instead of a switch.
From a single machine I should be able to bridge a 1G connection back to the 1G switch.
All machines in Home Lab are also connected by a 40G QSFP Mellanox card through a Voltaire switch.

The idea is is to get 2.5 or, fingers crossed, 5G from workstation(s) back to storage in the garage.

If this works .. then once the 5G switches come out I should be able to run 5G in the home on my 2nd Cat-5E.
The switches are supposed to hit the market this year a substantially lower cost compared to current 10G.

That's a fair price. Interesting to see how it goes. 2.5g/5g may see some fanless lower power switch options at speeds above 1G would be nice.

Have a feeling the ship has somewhat sailed but the next year will tell for sure.

    Short Answer: 4.30 Gbps
I also purchased 2x Asus 10G Aquantia cards for the same price, $100 from Newegg.

I will post all results in the 10G thread
