got a card that shows these errors when booted up. looks like the firmware is bad or something. this is a Dell server and Dell branded card, but is a Broadcom 57800S. The Dell firmware update doesn't detect the card. is there some other method? (perhaps some lower level utility from broadcom using a firmware file extracted from the Dell update package?)

Sorry man. Pretty sure you’re SOL.
I had the same problem with 2 bNDCs.
Dell ended up warranting it even though it wasn’t the originals.

good to keep a system around with warranty if you can :)

If it has "external" from the chip, eeprom, you could simply flash that.

If you are lucky, it is accassable from the OS so that flashrom sees it, or you go and grab one of those external flashtools like cha341A.
