I'm slowly laying out plans to build a 12x10 "shed" in my backyard that will effectively be a 'mini-datacenter'. It'll be a place where I can hide all the computing gear and serve as a "lab". I'm thinking about cable management and came across this product called "WireRun":

Cobia Cable Tray System - Wire Run

Seems simple enough, but i have no first hand experience installing it. Anyone tried this stuff? Opinions? Or opinions about a similar product?

didn't see a section in the forums where this topic would fit so posting here...

If you use reddit, head over to r/cableporn and you'll see many top-end cable jobs using wirerun channels. It's typically used to pass large bundles of low voltage wire overhead and works extremely well if you keep it neat.

On today's post, there's THIS which is a good example.

Are you just looking at their basket style cable tray? I've used cablofil CABLOFIL United Kingdom trays from RS before and they're fine. Cut them with a 18V makita cordless angle grinder and dress edges with a file.

Really nice way to run cable - the ability to easily bundle together and tie down with velcro ties, got better access than the stamped steel tray (and less chance of sharp edges). I think all brands are pretty standard but there might be something special about wirerun which I've not picked up on.

I used it for long runs in a warehouse for APs and terminals - what sort of layout are you thinking about for your shed?

yes, the basket style trays. i'm not sure of my layout yet, like i said i'm still in planning phase. if i end up with a raised floor, i want to use this to carry the cables under the floor tiles. if i don't go with raised floor, it'll carry the cables above the racks.
