A 8x 2.5G + 2x 10G switch would hit just the sweet spot of what I've been looking for, but besides the STH article from early September, there hasn't been a peep.

Would anyone have heard anything more recent about switches using those hitting the market?

To answer my own question, it looks like switches based on that architecture might be finally coming to market. From what I could find on chinese forums, there's a company going by Netis or Netcore (www.netcoretec.com) that launched the GS10, a switch with 8x 2.5G and 2x 10G SFP+.

It's not listed in their english website but is present on their chinese one, and it looks like the switch might be on taobao. If the forum comment is accurate, should be around $40-45 USD (280 yuan)?

Im finding with light management seems like unmanaged version
L2 management is managed but only very minimal. Of course it isn't L3 management

On a side note, Diewu TXE296 is also another mxl86282 switch

There was mention in one of the most recent STH switch reviews that they had found one, but nothing else since afaik.
At least for me, I know that Xike has the SKS1200-8GPY2XF i've had for a while now and the Netcore GS10 that my friend has got earlier this year and my Diewu TXE296 (which was VERY cheap despite having a internal PSU)
and now the SKS3200-8E2X is maxlinear as well but with management
So that's at least 3
Are you sure its maxlinear? It could also be realtek like one of my switches that i sold to a friend and the one that STH just reviewed

It looks like The Xike/Seeker line recently started selling the SKS3200-8E2X at around $74 USD which says it is using the MXL862825. Example Aliexpress link here. The marketing material seems to say that it has a web management interface and no fan.

Edit: Sorry I missed that this switch was mentioned in the previous post but I'll leave this here with the chip and link info.

Yes and they've been selling the SKS1200-8GPY2XF since early this year, which they shelved for the SKS3200-8E2X which is the same price and managed... (the MXL86282S was always a managed chip)
*They are both MXL86282S*

Not exactly 8x2.5Gb + 2x10Gb , but noticed also 5x2.5Gb + 2x10Gb cheap ( 24 Eur ) MaxLinear switch appear on aliexpres .
Order it from https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008756007328.html
Noticed it, because differ in not 4+2 ports.
Got it , opened / disassemble and it is MaxLinear MxL86252C based :) , it have VLAN switch ...
Wonder that datasheet could be easy downloaded from official web-site :
MxL86252C - MaxLinear
and PCB contain some 2 x 4pins interface, so probably possibility to make it management,
I would say good catch for such price, good competitor for Realtek 4x2.5G + 2x10G .

Edit: Oh, it's looks like Smart switches are only with suffix "I" and "S" , not "C" :(
