So some preliminary details about airmont cores was released on Anandtech which has me more than a little excited for the Avoton/Rangeley revamp. With the 14nm shrink these little processors will become even more power efficient making them even better as storage or network security nodes.
I can see intel going in 3 directions with them:
  • Same chip just lower TDP,
  • Higher clockspeeds,
  • More cores?
I keep turning to the bank statements to see if I can justify a Rangeley AND a Xeon-D as my entire homelab. Which, if you think about it, actually gives you a lot of room to play with.

Denverton - been on roadmaps for awhile. I think it was supposed to be 16 cores up from 8 on Avoton.

So there's speculation for both the higher clockspeeds/same cores and the double core count.

Though people seem to be pretty confident that denverton will be using airmont cores instead of goldmont cores.
