This really is a steal (shows QTY 6 on hand), considering that on ebay the AFM-700 (super capacator "battery backup unit") are selling for ~ 180$, for another ~ 50$ (obo) you get a "free" (DELL OEM) ASR 78165 , 7 series adaptec raid card!

NOTE: THIS IS A OEM DELL ADAPTEC CARD - I dont know what this means in terms of compatability, BIOS / config or if its possible to flash to a standard Adaptec BIOS. Im guessing though that the dell FW on this card cant be all that bad (if it even is a dell FW and not just a dell rebrand of the adaptec card).

Im strongly considering buying this just for the AFM-700 and using it on my Adaptec 8805 card and keeping or just playing with the "free" DELL 78165 Card. I personally love Adaptec cards and have been using them since their 5 series with great results. (i esp. love the adaptec 8 series cards)

Nice find. Looks like Adaptec supports HBA pass through modes on the 7 & 8 series cards, so could be a really nice 16e 8i HBA.

Wow. Tempted to get this, sell off the battery backup for the going price of ~$125, and have a $100 16e/8i hba for less than the price of an LSI 8i PCI-E3.0 card.

Anyone know if the HBA pass through mode really is transparent, eg. good for ZFS/freenas?

EDIT: I did a $175 best offer and seller accepted. Could have gone lower, but oh well.

Will see how this works as a passthrough HBA :)
