I have used the 52445/5805/31605 with 2/4tb HGST drives for backup storage. Compared to 2208-based LSI raid, they have single-core processor vs dual-core in LSI, and are 3Gbs vs 6Gbs LSI. Much higher latency than LSI, so SSD's are a no-go, but they work great for backups.

Can't help on the revisions; I looked over the ones in my parts bin and could not see any relevant markings. Feel free to PM me if you can't sort out the revision issue - I have a box of Adaptec I'm not using.
