still in the process of building my Supermicro 846 servers. got some dual port 10Gb NICs but they got roughed up in shipping. was testing them out today and decided to do some modding.
changed out the PCI cover brackets with square holes to match the square holes above the PCI slots. decided to add some of the same square holes on the dual port NIC to improve ventilation. the heatsink got knocked off in shipping so decided to redo the thermal compound.
this wasn't planned, but after trying it out, I probably won't ever do it again. the results weren't as good as I hoped and it just took too much time as I did this with a drill and files.
