looks like it's DDR3, i'v never seen it in that kind of density before, it certainly could be for power7 ibm doesn't have to play by anyone elses rules there

The other side of that densely circuited square is definitely a serious buffer chip.

not sure what rank the ddr4 is... the ddr3 was octo rank... probably not much stuff supporting it outside E7, wouldn't be surprised if it was the same with 128gb ddr4.
