2u 2node server with Shared Storage (Newbie needs help)

Hi all,

I picked up a Supermicro 2U 2Node server, that shares a 24 drive nvme backplane. Per Supermicro both nodes see all drives, so splitting them is not really an option. I got this setup for pennies, so i want to try my hands at a cluster or failover server.

Has anyone ever used one of these types of servers and what OS is recommended?
I have gotten Truenas Core/Scale, Unraid, Proxmox to run on each node, but when it comes to storage I am crawling in the mud.

Any guidance or info would be great,

24 drive nvme, or sas? sounds like sas dual nvme are unicorns

Coming from Nutanix AHV with multi-node 2-3 filled nodes in 1U or 2U units, certain amount of drives are contained to that specific node. There is no "true" sharing of the 24 bays with the two nodes. So technically, you can only use 12 bays for each node. You can ask a Supermicro rep for accuracy.
