So looks like Asus just released a standalone since port 10gb nic for 100-120$. Looks like it is just a repackage of what they were already bundling with some of their motherboards. I have the older version and have not had any issues with it.

Specs have it drawing only 6.5w and it also support 2.5gb and 5gb speeds.

It's never been the NICs slowing adoption of 10g-baseT. The lack of cost effective switches is what holds things back...

Yup, as much as it's nice to see some NICs based on the Aquantia chipset (i.e. relatively cheap and supporting 2.5 and 5Gbps as well), the lack of any switches is the big killer (and I'm also somewhat concerned about driver support for OSes like linux and BSD since they're a relative newcomer and there's not many canaries in this particular coal mine).

First vendor to come out with a ~24*5Gbps port managed switch with a handful of 10GbE uplinks for less than a grand is going to have an awful lot of enthused homelabbers queuing up... or even just a 12 port 5Gbps switch.

In the meantime, let the thumb-twiddling continue...
