Thanks all for the suggestions. Seems like the only thing significantly lower either costs too much C3xxx and C2xxx or don't support ECC. If only atom level processors supported ECC.
Rather than think worse case firmware, perhaps its just a HPA or DCO issue. Use hitachi feature tool that should have a way to remove HPA/DCO. Also could use linux hdparm.
What is an HPA? What is a DCO? : Tabernus Support
I need as many as possible listed like newegg or provantage, cdw. What is the best way to search multiple sites like these for specific item? Maybe an all in one engine like camelcamelcamel.com? Any others out there?
Anyone purchased from atacom.com?
Hi all. I would like suggestions for a cheap low power cpu + motherboard combo that supports ECC unbuffered RAM. Under 40W idle is a must, lower the better. Age/generation doesn't matter but must be Intel. Cost is a factor but second to power usage.
I have an optiplex 7010 motherboard which I amd using in a standard atx case. I have been searching for any mods to bypass the warnings on post. Any mods even bios mod I would be grateful for!

Both are January 2016.

I shucked two of these and badblocks stressing now. Smartware however seems to be taking up space I only get 7451.91GB in linux. I rushed it and didn't try to remove while still in enclosure, assuming its even possible to do so.
It doesn't show any HPA using hdparm.

I think its WD green, but at this price it was too good to pass up for me.

Both drives we bought at same time from Amazon. Both same firmware (800). Both made in China with same date JAN-2012.
