Lenovo Thinkcentre/ThinkStation Tiny (Project TinyMiniMicro) Reference Thread

Speaking of temps -- what are "typical" temperatures people are seeing with an I350-T4 card in one of these Lenovos? (as reported by a 'sensors' command or similar, I guess) Just putting my M920Q together and gonna throw OPNsense bare metal on it so only briefly booted it up the other day and I...

what storage device will fit this slot?

Technically, that's an A+E Key slot, I think? People have used it for an extra NIC (like this one). I think it's limited to PCIe x1 (or was it x2?) and you can technically use an adapter like this one as well -- someone correct me if I'm talking out of my a**, please -- to throw an SSD in there.

    Tiny/Mini/Micro PC experiences

Awesome, thanks... re: 6 in a cluster, whoa, that's a lot! Haha. I was able to snag an EliteDesk 800 G5 with an i5-9600T for ~$150 so I'm excited to play with it here soon.

Thank you very much @poulpor for that feedback; much appreciated. I won't be using a thunderbolt card so that part should be fine. I do recall reading something about that earlier in this thread and it's good to know. As for why bare-metal vs. virtualized, it's definitely a great question...

Lenovo Thinkcentre/ThinkStation Tiny (Project TinyMiniMicro) Reference Thread

Sort of a dumb question (sorry) but, for running a bare-metal OPNsense firewall, is there much difference between a M720q and a M920q (with a PCIe 2 or 4-port card)? I guess B360 vs. Q370 chipsets and the latter having vPro (which I don't really care about I guess?) but is there any...

Yeah, it was definitely damaged during shipping. I'll double check the fine print but looked like seller might pay for returns (screenshot below) but will see...

    EXPIRED Precision 7820 Tower, dual Silver 4110, 32gb, 1tb ssd, P600 $349 shipped

Yeah, I'm going to actually try to return mine (I got a 7810, not 7820 so wasn't as good a deal to begin with). It got banged up pretty hard and the box is bent enough so that it stands kind of tilted/only on 3 feet. Hope they accept it back.

Haha, whoa... good catch! Looks like front 2-port USB assembly? From pics, it has a metal casing so good heat conducting, I guess?

Proxmox homelab advice requested - low power usage, mid performance - Which TinyMiniMicro?

Understood. Sounds good. The i5-8500 vs. i5-6500 should be a nice upgrade, definitely. Sounds like worth the extra cost upfront.

Proxmox homelab advice requested - low power usage, mid performance - Which TinyMiniMicro?

@denis_tmm Here's an Optiplex 7050 Micro (i5-6500/8GB/256GB) for $149.99... although shipping to Germany looks to be about $59 (ouch). Same seller also has a 7050 with i5-6500T (35W model) for $139.99. Hmm. Kind of tempted to grab one myself since US shipping is free. Haha.

Received my "Dell Precision 7810 x2 Xeon E5-2620 v3 32GB 500GB HDD + x2 256GB SSD BTO *NO OS*" ($180) down in Southern California. Haven't had a chance to plug it in yet but does indeed have 2x E5-2620 V3's and 4x 8GB sticks of RAM. Whoever mentioned earlier that the packing job was subpar...

Topton Jasper Lake Quad i225V Mini PC Report

Hah.. To be fair, in this case, I don't think they're trying to hide that the two stores are the same company (CWWK) so I'll give them a pass. But know exactly what you mean with all the other stores using the same info pages/pictures/graphics.

    Tiny/Mini/Micro PC experiences

Wanted to mess around with some (small) Proxmox VMs -- is it worth spending ~$160-170 on an EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini (I5-8500T, 35W) in 2023 (hah) or is there some better $/specs TMM box I could pick up these days? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info (and very informative posts you got in your thread -- somehow I had completely missed it). Definitely an option... the RJ03L N6005 looks to be ~$245 at the HUNSN Online Store, which isn't bad.

Topton Jasper Lake Quad i225V Mini PC Report

FWIW, I reached out to CWWC via their contact form at the CWWC Store shop to inquire about N6005 boxes no longer being available and got this back: Meaning, roughly, "Hello, N6005 is temporarily out of stock. It may be discontinued, and we will not know whether it will be discontinued until...

Topton Jasper Lake Quad i225V Mini PC Report

Looks like I've taken too long to make up my mind and order one of these puppies. Hah. N6005 no longer being sold at the CWWC PC Store and it's gone up in price from ~$240 to $290 in the past 7-10 days at the O.G. CWWC Store. Oh well, I guess I'll try waiting another week or so to see if...
