    RAID card for ESXi server

Following all the suggestions and information in the thread, I ended up getting an IBM M5015 with the built-in cache and a battery backup for 120$. I'm hoping having the cache will reduce any chances of latency to the RAID 10 on the ESXi server. Thanks for the information!

    RAID card for ESXi server

Hi, I am looking for advice on getting a RAID card for my ESXi 5.1 server. The motherboard is a Supermicro X9SCL-F in a 4U chassis. I would like to do a 4 SSD drive raid 10 for the datastore along with a mirrored raid for the OS (esxi 5.1). The RAID card would need to support 6Gb/s and have 8...

Vertical CPU fan for X8SIL-F or X9SCL-F

You're right GoofyHSK, the CPU temp stays at Low but the whole chasis is now cooler due to better air flow.

Vertical CPU fan for X8SIL-F or X9SCL-F

To do a follow-up, thanks everyone for you suggestions. I ended up going with the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro REV.2 CPU Heat sink Cooler as it was pretty cheap (25$ on sale). The bottom of the fan is right above the RAM modules but it isn't touching. I have run stress (on Fedora) and with my...

Vertical CPU fan for X8SIL-F or X9SCL-F

Hi, I'm looking to replace the stock Intel CPU fan on both my servers with an after-market vertical CPU fan in order to streamline the airflow. There is a sale on at NCIX for the Corsair A70 (NCIX link) however I'm not sure if the fan is to large/ wide for the motherboard. There isn't that...

    Setup suggestion for ESXi/NAS server

I would like to stay with hardware RAID because I know it and I find it easier to manage. I'm not saying software RAID isn't as good, I just haven't taken the time yet to properly learn it. For now I feel safer using hardware RAID. As for using it with ZFS, I'm hearing a lot of good things about...

    Setup suggestion for ESXi/NAS server

I was planning on going with ZFS for two reason. The first is that is supports data deduplication and the second (I know it's not a good reason) is that all the NAS software I come across uses or recommends ZFS.

    X8sil-f ram

That's looks about right, the RAM doesn't seem to have the thermal sensor though. The main reason why I went with quad rank ram was it was in stock at Newegg at the time (I didn't want to buy everything and not be able to use it cause cheaper ram wasn't in stock). I read up on other forums...

    X8sil-f ram

I have the X8SIL-F board and I'm using two stick of KVR1066D3Q8R7S/4G, so 8Gb right now. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139024 Everything is working great and all of the ram passed the memtest86. I'll be buying more in the future to bring my ESXi server up to 16Gb.

    Areca vs HP SAS expander

With Norco now coming out with new cases that included the Areca SAS expander, I was wondering if anyone had a change to compare it to the HP SAS expander. I need to grow my storage capacity and I'm debating going for a a case with the Areca SAS expander included like the DS-24E or the RPC-4224...

SAMSUNG HD204UI important firmware patch required

What are your experiences with these drives in a RAID configuration? I recently purchased an Areca ARC-1880i card and was planning to setup a RAID 5 or RAID 6 with the Samsung HD204UI drives. I already have one drive and I'm very happy with it. Looking through other forums and reviews, I...
