Cisco router for cable internet, small network

I've replaced my ASA5505 with EdgeRouter POE, got frustrated how difficult it is to setup properly (especially FW rules & routes) and how bad the GUI is and finally settled up on ZyWALL 110. Great interface, hardware is powerful (quad-core CPU) and support is in US. Way cheaper than Cisco or...

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

Quick question: are all 4 nodes on C6100 identical? Friend of mine just got C6100 server and two of the nodes are slightly different cabling. Is that normal or he got nodes that belong to two different servers?

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

Thanks, I have plenty of these. Where did you connect the SATA connectors to? That's a standard cable without sideband connector. Original Dell cables come with one additional small connector, maybe that's the reason why you're not getting lights?

Samsung 840 Pro or Intel S3500?

Did you use Samsung Magician to change OP size or just created one 384GB partition? Actually, how many 840 Pro do you use for ESXi? I've purchased 6x 512GB 840 Pro's for my vSphere lab but haven't set them yet... still thinking should I go DS3611xs route or just build nice small mATX-based server.

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

I see. So they are SFF-8087 to 4x SATA. Where these cables are connected to? Are they going to these same connectors we have SATA cables coming from motherboard (sorry, I do not have the server so I can't just look and see where connectors are)?

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

Is the issue with lights because of the particular cable used or because of server design? Still, I don't know what cable is used to connect LSI 9260-8i... any help?

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

Hi, Need some help quickly. I am about to order C6100 tomorrow from MCP @ ebay but they no longer have Dell/LSI MegaRAID 9260-8i controllers with wires that will allow me to run two sets of HDDs (6 drives each) connected to two nodes. Could you please help me find the correct wires for this...

LSI MegaRAID 9260-8i SAS Controller (Dell 03NDP)

Does it come with any SATA/SAS cables and PCIe adapter? I need two of these for my Dell C6100 I am about to order tomorrow but not sure it comes with PCIe adapter. I need to connect two groups of 6 HDDs to two nodes.

    Fast networking for C6100

What's the difference between these: Voltaire ISR 9024, Voltaire ISR 9024M, Voltaire ISR 9024S and Voltaire ISR 9024D-M? Voltaire ISR 9024 and Voltaire ISR 9024S is cheapest on fleabay. "D" version appears to be 20GBps... From what I've read I need a Subnet Manager that should be either...

    Fast networking for C6100

Good point :). I don't mind playing a bit more with driver install if I can get more from technology that is available, supported officially under ESXi 5.1+ and faster than 10GbE. I can actually see the benefit of using Infiniband vs Ethernet after reading couple articles on Wikipedia and...

    Fast networking for C6100

So you think that Infiniband is better than 10GbE (I am not talking about the difference in speed only, but in general)? Could you please share a URL to a QDR and slower switch (how do you call it, SDR, DDR?) that is compatible with the above adapter?

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

How to connect the nodes? . I've spent 3 days reading all 984 posts in this thread :) , many thanks to all participants helping fellow less experienced users :) ! It helped me to shape my vision about what I can do with these C6100s. Now it is time to start working on new project. I'm...

    Fast networking for C6100

I am working on a separate project (first one was just a single 6100 for company-in-a-chassis setup) that will include two C6100 XS23-TY3s (8 nodes total): 3x VMware hosts 3x physical database servers with local storage 2x nodes set as shared storage (NAS) for vSphere The question is now...

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

That was my plan "B" - to build this array using SSDs. That is he approach I am using since last year for my own home lab, but this build is for a friend of mine that is going to use it for business. Actually, he is upgrading existing virtualized servers that are running on like 10 year old...

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

Thanks, guys! So, there is no problem to mix both types of drives on a "standard" chassis. My setup requires 1.5TB fast local storage attached to one node for couple VMs (that's why I need 15k rpm SAS drives); and a second node with slow but large storage. 6x 4TB in RAID10 will give me 11+ TB...

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

Hmmm... according to specs, they support both: Drive Bays and Hard Drives 3.5” SATA (7.2K): 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB 3.5” SAS (15K): 300GB, 450GB, 600GB 3.5” NL SAS (7.2K): 1TB, 2TB, 3TB I hope they can co-exist in one chassis, both groups of disk are connected to separate controllers so...

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

Thanks for this info...I was looking purely at Watts and forgot that there are other things to consider :-) I was planning to fill it with 6x 15k rpm Cheetah's and 6x 4TB Ultrastars for storage. I will try to reduce the startup current by using drive spin-up sequencing control on LSI controllers.

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

Most sellers at ebay sell these with 1100W PSU, that's why I wanted to know if that will work for my config. Why should I spend more for 1400W if the server with 12 drives and 8 CPUs on max with draw, say, 850-900W? It reminds me of my old computer system that has 700W PSU but was sucking 220W...

    Dell C6100 XS23-TY3 2U 4-Node (8 CPU) Cloud Server

Is 1100W PSU good for 12HDD, 8 L5639 & 192GB? What power supply do I need for a 8x L5639 with 192GB RAM and 12HDDs? I will also use two LSI 9260-8i cards for a 2x6 HDD setup. Will be 1100W sufficient? I think here are some folks that are running similar configs, what is your experience...
