Speaking of temps -- what are "typical" temperatures people are seeing with an I350-T4 card in one of these Lenovos? (as reported by a 'sensors' command or similar, I guess)
Just putting my M920Q together and gonna throw OPNsense bare metal on it so only briefly booted it up the other day and I...
Technically, that's an A+E Key slot, I think? People have used it for an extra NIC (like this one).
I think it's limited to PCIe x1 (or was it x2?) and you can technically use an adapter like this one as well -- someone correct me if I'm talking out of my a**, please -- to throw an SSD in there.
Awesome, thanks... re: 6 in a cluster, whoa, that's a lot! Haha.
I was able to snag an EliteDesk 800 G5 with an i5-9600T for ~$150 so I'm excited to play with it here soon.
Thank you very much @poulpor for that feedback; much appreciated.
I won't be using a thunderbolt card so that part should be fine. I do recall reading something about that earlier in this thread and it's good to know.
As for why bare-metal vs. virtualized, it's definitely a great question...
Sort of a dumb question (sorry) but, for running a bare-metal OPNsense firewall, is there much difference between a M720q and a M920q (with a PCIe 2 or 4-port card)?
I guess B360 vs. Q370 chipsets and the latter having vPro (which I don't really care about I guess?) but is there any...
Yeah, it was definitely damaged during shipping. I'll double check the fine print but looked like seller might pay for returns (screenshot below) but will see...
Yeah, I'm going to actually try to return mine (I got a 7810, not 7820 so wasn't as good a deal to begin with). It got banged up pretty hard and the box is bent enough so that it stands kind of tilted/only on 3 feet. Hope they accept it back.
@denis_tmm Here's an Optiplex 7050 Micro (i5-6500/8GB/256GB) for $149.99... although shipping to Germany looks to be about $59 (ouch). Same seller also has a 7050 with i5-6500T (35W model) for $139.99. Hmm. Kind of tempted to grab one myself since US shipping is free. Haha.
My wallet is kindly asking for you all to stop posting all these great suggestions here, please. Thank you!
(In all seriousness, this is great... getting a lot of nice ideas here, thanks)
Received my "Dell Precision 7810 x2 Xeon E5-2620 v3 32GB 500GB HDD + x2 256GB SSD BTO *NO OS*" ($180) down in Southern California.
Haven't had a chance to plug it in yet but does indeed have 2x E5-2620 V3's and 4x 8GB sticks of RAM.
Whoever mentioned earlier that the packing job was subpar...
