8x the performance in low queue depth performance....Colour me intrigued.

When I first heard about optane I was pretty excited, but between then and now DRAM & NAND got better and optane seems to have gotten worse (maybe because its old specs were relative to old technology). Anyways, I know what Intel prices are like for new technology, and I can buy DDR4 for what, $6 per gig and NVME NAND at sub 50c. They better have optane at sub $2 or I just can't see myself caring for my applications.

This is exciting especially for those of us with smaller databases!!

@Patrick any cost info publicly available yet?

What does it take to support the Memory drive technology? Has anyone found a link to what processors / chipsets are supported/required? Thanks in advance if you find it!

$1500 is a steal for 375 GB of memory, even if it is slow-ish in some scenarios.

"Intel's DC P4800X will initially come to market as a 375GB AIC (Add-In Card) with a $1,520 price point, or roughly $4.05 per GB, and is available today. The company will add 750GB and 1.5TB capacity points in both AIC and U.2 form factors."

At 400GB capacity I feel "meh" at $1500 I feel even more "meh" and puts that size for most I feel not needed... maybe if you're at capacity with a p3700 cache and feel it could 'get you over' the hump...

It was possible for many many many months to get 32GB DDR4 LRDIMMS for $125-$140.
12 DIMMS * 130$ = 1560$ = 384GB

I'll take the RAM and a "low price" P3700 800GB (half price of that 400GB) for the persistent storage, lol.

@Patrick can you test one setup in an "extended memory" configuration so its effectively slower ram? cheaper than ram and fast enough for cache as a storage server?

Found this slide showing system requirements.

(Also saw in one review that the Memory drive technology software may be an additional $400. I have no proof of this, just repeating what was in the review.)
