Hi everyone.
I just built a nice Database Server (2x6 cores, 256GB RAM, 8 Drives) which will run Windows Server 2012 with SQL. This will be used as the main Database-server for a rather large website.
We want to have two Raid 10:
1. Raid 10: 4 x intel M510 SSD (for OS and Database files)
2. Raid 10: 4 x WD BlackSeries (just for Backups)

Right now I can't decide if I should go for the IBM M5015 or the M1015 as I've read different statements about performance and security in Raid 10.
I've read through the Forum for quite a while and I'm unsure if I really need the cache and BBU of the M5015?
I've also read on another thread that in Raid 10 only the M1015 is even faster. So should I just save some money and get the 1015 or does the 5015 give me more security for my data?
(As far as I understand the cache/BBU is only need in Raid5/6 configurations...?)

Thanks!

Not tried these yet, bit tentative as it wreaked havoc with my RAID6 array on CacheCade v2.0 with previous version.
Does take LSI quite a while to fix one issue

I'll update my upload as soon as I get a chance

M5015 has fastpath/cachecade etc. If you are on a budget, the $66 M5014 is a great deal. Use one for ssd and one for your drives :) The battery makes a huge difference with hard drives, but does nothing for ssd.

M5015/5014 does not have FP or CC as standard, there is a hardware Key you can get to enable it, but this costs many times the cost of the controller.

thanks for keeping up on these. I have a Dell H700 that I've kept on lower firmware to allow drive spindown, but am considering upgrading to get the benefits of cachecade 2.0 (currently using cachecade 1)

There had been a seller for awhile on ebay with bare cards for $66. I think a lot of us got the M5014 + BBU for $150-160 w/ tax and ship not too long ago. Bought 4 and used 1 :)

Hi.

Do you have login or link or smth? So we can watch ebay ?

Also: can anyone tell me if 5014/5015 in any fw/sbr combination supports drive pass through (connected drive is visible to OS without single disk raid-0 or, for that matter any special settings in controller) ?

Thx.

M5014/5015/LSI9260 does not have pass through, single drive = single RAID0 array, no way round it.
