I may be wrong but I thought 870 QVO was a pretty dog slow consumer drive so for IO intensive operations in a server it is a very cost optimized choice?

No PLP and you are putting desktop QLC SSD's for critical database applications in production?
Yup i am and will do it over and over
currently have running seagate baracuda HDD disks i bought over 7 years ago running workloads in PROD
for like 7 years now and no single hiccups, not one single one
on desktop seagate barracudas HDD!!!

this is a ton improvement over that
so yes and yes and yes, you can get the best SSD, and still need backup
so backup solves all that problem, because am ready for the worst to happen
you tell me who is smarter there now

the scare tactics working for the masses, but not me

Let me guess, your 870 QVO writes slower than your 7 years old barracuda HDD, and without PLP your 870 QVO will have a much much higher chance to lose data or destroy your whole dataset on a power loss than your 7 years old barracuda HDD.

The 870 is not the correct answer to:

" best 8TB SSD to buy for new server build? Running database and IO intensive operations "

Fear mongering or not, it's not the answer...

It's uP To 560/530 MB/s and Up tO 98/88k IOPS, so enjoy the few minutes that it runs fast, and good luck after that few minutes.

Hint: I have that 870 QVO, and I know exactly how fast it runs ; )

And this is different for 870 EVO?
Or just 870 QVO are liars and everyone else are truthers?
