Hey, it's my first post here!

I have had a curious problem ever since I set up my openindiana/napp-it storage solution. After I installed everything and set up my zpools, I never have any updates. I have ran packagemanager about once a week checking for updates but there never are any. I don't have too many applications installed but I would think there would be at least a few updates since I installed the system a month and a half ago. I was just wondering if this is common with solaris/OI since this is the first time I've ever kept an install running for more than a few days.

FYI, my selected repositories are openindiana.org, sfe, and sfe-encumbered.

Any help would be really appreciated!

EDIT: Here is my uname

$ uname -a
SunOS Cyberdine 5.11 oi_151a7 i86pc i386 i86pc Solaris

151a7 is the current OpenIndiana, there is no update up to now.

Problem: No one is working full-time on OI, it is a pure community project.
But there are efforts for OI 151a8, see The oi-dev May 2013 Archive by date

If you need a stable release or regular updates, you may check OmniOS
It is quite similar to OI server.

Ah, I see. I figured there would be atleast some security or package updates. I guess the lack of development really is lacking!

Thanks for your reply, I'll give OmniOS a try to see if it would be a better alternative.

EDIT: If i happened to install OmniOS on my ESXi box, all I would have to do with my zpools from OI would be to export them and then import them on my OmniOS install, correct? I have yet to migrate a zpool between different installations.

correct, both support ZFS pool v.5000 with feature flags

Only if you enable the new LZ4 compression feature in OmniOS, you cannot go back
unless OI supports that as well.

about updates in Omni
see ReleaseNotes

What exactly is LZ4 compression? Would it be recommended for personal use for a mostly media storage?

I am debating to go with OmniOS instead of OI, due to the better/faster support.
