I've come across several posts regarding Intel Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise and the activate port led to locate disks. It wasn't working but now we have it going. First, version of Windows is unimportant. Behaviour is the same across versions. First, if your backplane supports Sgpio, thats the jumpers you need to set on your backplane. Find the manual and set them all to the sgpio settings. If you have both sata ports and an sff connector, the sff connector has to have sideband support cable labeled p4. From your motherboard you will run the 2nd sgpio 8 pin cable from sgpio port on motherboard to sgpio port on backplane. Ports 0-3 are sgpio 1, ports 4-7 are sgpio 2. Check your sata and sas oroms at boot by hitting ctrl I and getting the orom version. X9 should have oroms 4.1 for both sata and sas if you have upgraded bios to latest version. Your Intel Rapid Storage Enterprise driver version should be 4.1 to match both sata and sas oroms. Once installed and rebooted, your activate port leds will work,:)
