Today I added my unused Kingston HyperX Predator PCI-E 2.0 240GB SSD to my Supermicro X11SSi-LN4F using it's onboard M.2 slot.
Upon boot it shows the following message:
Booting the OS (FreeBSD 12.0-RELEASE) shows the drive as:
Ok, fine. But what's not fine is that is shows up as a SATA device.
Maybe the motherboard doesn't have PCI-E 2.0 SSD's alright and switching to a PCI-E 3.0 solves the issue.
But I was wondering if anyone here has had this issue before.
Oddly enough, the BIOS/UEFI doesn't mention anything regarding the M.2 slot at all.
Not can I find the drive anywhere.
Also, it's not like a couple of SATA ports are shared with the M.2 slot so you're required to disable those in order for the M.2 slot to work. This is needed on Z270 motherboards for example, or at least one that I own.
The PCH on this motherboards show nothing combined between the two. So, I am assuming both 7 SATA ports and the M.2 slot should be able to work side by side.

Doing a bit of searching it shows that the message on the POST screen can be a false positive.
