I noticed supermicro has a 3U chassis that is designed to work with GPUs, the SC835: Supermicro | Products | Chassis | 3U | SC835BTQ-R1K28B
My current chassis is an SC836, which unfortunately doesn't have PCIe power connectors.

The SC836 seems to be very similar to the SC835, so I thought that maybe the PDB from the 835 (PDB-PT836-B4824) would fit the 836. Thoughts?

Also, my HBAs and other cards that I have installed in my 836 run very hot, and I like the way the external pci slot fan assembly looks on the 835.
Combined with ventilated brackets, it looks like it'd work very well to cool them.

Anybody have any insight?
I couldn't even find pictures of a real 835 with the GPU setup (fans and pdb) online...

The only real differences between SC835 and SC836 are (a) the rear window and (b) the cables coming off the power distributor board and (c) the backplane/drive chassis in the front. Otherwise pretty much all other parts are interchangeable.

The 835's power distributer is PDB-PT836-B4824. If you replace the power distributor board you'll get your PCIe power cables. Its very easy to change them out, but its hard to source them at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the response!
How different is the rear window in regards to being able to retrofit that fan on the 836?
Is my only option to swap the whole rear with the 835?

It's all screwed together, so you can unscrew the rear faceplate and drop in an 835 faceplate....or if you don't care on the looks you could just remove it and leave it without one.
