I think the main problem with that chassis is that even though it might not be entirely outdated, the power supplies are ancient and horribly inefficient by today's standards.

Pass, get a R610/R710 fully loaded if you really want to mess with stuff for roughly the same price and MUCH better forward compatibility.

Overall it is a good chassis for a compute node. The PSU s are loud and there are no quiet equivalents that can be used to replace it.
