i don't know , maybe it a marketing gag, but the rescue option sounds pretty good.

but for those how want to crack out the disk for his server , its of course unnecessary.

125 EUR is a good price but not special. You get the same HDD in Maxtor external devices for 133 on Amazon.de and can even find it cheaper elsewhere.

I've had too many bad experiences with Maxtor

There are seagate drives in those Maxtor external devices. AFAIK it's the same company.
