I'm considering disassembling the 846 entirely for some modifications. The rivets they use look like countersunk rivets, 1/8" dia., probably steel? (or is it aluminum?) Before I go buy some rivets, I thought I'd ask here to see what rivets work best? Will typical countersunk rivets work okay or is the angle/depth of the ones used by Supermicro specific to their application?
I'm looking at something like these:
18-8 Stainless Steel Open End Blind Rivet with Stainless Steel Break Pull Mandrel, Meets IFI-114 Grade 51, Countersunk Head, 1/8" Diameter, 0.275" Length, 0.063"-0.125" Grip Range (Pack of 250): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
5052 Aluminum Open End Blind Rivet with Aluminum Break Pull Mandrel, Meets IFI-114 Grade 11, Countersunk Head, 1/8" Diameter, 0.275" Length, 0.063"-0.125" Grip Range (Pack of 250): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
Thinking about the AL ones over the SS as I only have a hand rivet gun at home and doing SS rivets by hand takes too much grunting.
Thoughts?
