I have a Lenovo Thinkserver TS140 at home. I wanted to add a video card HDMI output to my tv and any encoding that would be needed...

I am leaning towards just picking up a cheap $15-$30 ATI card.

Any opinions or advice?

This is my go-to card when I need video in servers: Amazon.com: Zotac 1 GB DDR3 64-Bit Video Card Graphics Card ZT-60607-10L: Computers & Accessories

Low power, and works in most motherboards I have tried, even the Supermicro X9SKV-1125 reviewed awhile back. I might even be tempted to get the newer model for $5 more: Amazon.com: Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 1GB DDR3 DVI VGA HDMI PCI-Express 2.0 Video Card ZT-71107-10L: Computers & Accessories

The bad side is they are PCIe x1 cards. The positive is that they have a nice variety of outputs for the price and have worked well for me in many different motherboards. Certainly not speed daemons though.

I forgot that I do have 2 - 280x that I bought last spring for mining and never ended up using after a 5 month wait. I forgot about them and they showed up one day, lol. Still sitting new in the box. I think Ill check our your card and consider selling these for whatever I can get for them.

Why not a DP to HDMI adapter for your TS140 and using the built in Intel vid/sound?

I didnt even think about that...I was wondering what those display ports where for, since it was a slightly different plug. $20 for an adapter or just $50 for dedicated video? I could add a blu ray player and rip fast with a card.

Maybe Ill hold off on that for the moment till I have this server setup.
