I am moving out of a colo to have a server in my home. I tried the HP ML350 (ran about 45 dB) but it was just too loud. I will be using it to run ESXi.

My requirements are 1. Supports at least 96 GB DDR3 RAM 2. Supports 2 procs 3. Less than 30 dB of noise

Anyone have any suggestions?

If sub 30dB is the goal it's going to be more about custom cooling rather than an off the shelf HP or Dell. Supermicro has the SQ rated workstation chassis that are very quiet (they say 27dB). Otherwise get yourself whatever two socket Supermicro motherboard you like and put it in a consumer case that has EATX support (I like my Fractal Define R6) and some quiet case fans and good AIOs or air coolers.

If you need it rack mounted a Norco with 120mm fan walls and Noctua coolers should be nice and quiet too.
