Question about sata dom ports

I am looking to build a server in the next few months and have been looking at different Supermicro motherboards.

The ones I am leaning toward have different numbers of sata ports including the yellow powered superdom kind.

I know that they are for sata dom flash drives, but I have something else in mind. My question is whether a regular 2.5 in. ssd or 3.5 in. hdd can be plugged into these yellow ports. I assume I would still have to power the drive, but want to know if that will work safely.

Yes, normal sata function, you still need power from psu just like normal.
