Hello Everyone,

Please, I need help finding a compatible SFP+ to RJ45 Transceiver, I have tried multiple models of transceivers, they work, but the download is very low (below 1Mbps) as well as upload (around 300Mbps) whereas I have a Gig symmetrical Internet connection and when I test Internet on my UDM SE, it gives me the correct speeds.

I tried installing pfSense, then OPNSense, same thing, another thing I noticed, the connection on both pfSense & OPNSense shows "10Gbase-SR <full-duplex,rxpause,txpause>", I even tried turning off Flow Control, but no luck.

I don't know if it's the other side of the connection (ONT Ethernet port) but I don't think so because when I connect it back to UDM SE on the SFP+ WAN port, UDM SE shows 10Gbe with absolutely no issues.
I greatly appreciate any advice here.

The Transceivers I tested are these,

- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1273PI?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 (the one says "For Intel)"

And this is the appliance I have (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CLZSVM37?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1).
The 10Gbe SFP+ NICs are Intel X553

Thank you and appreciate your help here!

I'd also be interested in hearing if anyone has had success in this regard... and I can tell you this one WON'T work:

I have the rackmount Qotom and went with OPNSense; I have 10G symmetric fiber but my ISP only gives me 10GBase-T copper out of their ONT. Everything works fine using one of the 2.5Gbps copper interfaces on the Qotom (getting the expected 2500/2500).

But I ran into a similar issue as you - when I first set it up with the above transceiver I was getting speedtests where my download was 100 Mbps but my upload was 4 Gbps (!). As time would go on my download would deteriorate to single digit Mbps. Not sure if it was a heat issue or what, but it was definitely odd seeing DSL-like speeds on download yet multi-gig on upload.

It's a bit disconcerting to see more people running into this issue that I first saw mentioned by a single user in the main thread about these devices.

Note that many of those "cheap" 10GBASE-T transceivers likely use the same chipset so the different ones you tested might be practically identical except for slight EEPROM differences.

Just to rule out driver issues, have you tried an OS not based on FreeBSD? Something like VyOS that includes the properly working out-of-tree Intel driver (the Linux in-kernel driver currently has some issues) would be a good choice if you feel comfortable with a CLI.
