Proxmox VE and Backup - both?

I was reading the Proxmox documentation but am unable to determine if I need two different servers for Proxmox VE and Proxmox Backup, or if both can work on the same installation on one server?

Anyone done this?

Both can work in the same installation. I've configured the backup on a prod server and works very well.
But here recommends separate machines.

Would it be to much to ask for any details about that, if not straight forward? Setting up Proxmox VE as we speak

It is very simple to set up: Select Datacenter --> Backup --> Add

Then go through the config, which is pretty straighforward and self-explanatory:

I have proxmox backup running as a VM - with a NFS share exported from a PVE server.
Works great - but obviously not as performant as running directly on bare metal.
