it's ok, it easily upgrades it self.
if you have a licence than just run update upgrade from WebUI
if you run free, no license setup.
use this How to Update Proxmox VE When “You Do Not Have A Valid Subscription” to change the config and than you can run update/upgrade from UI.
I know the link says use CLI and you can but it worked just fine from UI on my test setup.

Thanks! I keep trying to get time to install and play around/learn it and haven't gotten there I think I've downloaded the releases this year and haven't gotten around to it yet, ha.
Good to know about upgrading without a license.
I haven't really read much about what you miss out on by not having a license. Have a list of things or other tricks/tips like this one?
It looks like it's $11/mo for community level for a 2P system, not too bad!

well based on the info on their site, you have no support/help except what you can get on the forum.
and believe me their forum suck big time, just like their devs attitude.
also, if you do update from the no-subscription repo you are risking of screwing up the install as per their warning
no-subscription server code is not as thoroughly QAed as Enterprise server code. so you might get a lemon from there.
functionality wies everything should work though.
PS: also if you want to remove the nag screen
you can run "sed -i "s/data.status !== 'Active'/false/g" /usr/share/pve-manager/ext6/pvemanagerlib.js"
after install. you will need to rerun it after upgrades or major updates as the file can be overwritten.

Why not just make a script for that so you can re-run after each update?
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
sed...
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
sed...
