I updated a Dell 6Gbps SAS HBA (the 2-external-connector version of the H200, as described here) to P19 (IT). I used the P19 firmware as P20 has a number of reported issues with FreeBSD (I'm running 10.1). [In case you're wondering why I flashed over the working OEM firmware, it is to try to handle a rare issue that happens with my LTO6 library and which was supposedly fixed around P16 in the generic firmware, but never made it into to the Dell OEM firmware.]
After flashing, the 2 port activity LEDs on the bracket are always on, steady orange. With the Dell firmware, off=nothing attached, orange=3 or fewer lanes active, green=4 lanes active. I reviewed the manual for the LSI SAS 9200-8e (the closest generic card to the Dell one) but it doesn't have LEDs near the connectors, and only has a header for activity LEDs for the two ports.
I compared the LSI firmware for the 9211-8i and the 9200-8e and the only difference is the card name, so that isn't the issue.
Am I correct in assuming that the bracket LEDs are specific to the Dell card and that the generic P19 firmware just doesn't know to do anything with them?
