Info:
OI 151a5 is out (bootable ISO)
http://wiki.openindiana.org/oi/oi_151a_prestable5+Release+Notes

ATTENTION!
This version introduces new ZFS features/ a ZFS version 5000 with feature flags.
If you update/use features, the pool is no longer readable by other OS's
like OI < 151a5, Solaris 11 (maybee never) or FreeBSD or Linux (maybee later)

I would not update Pool version beside testings or when a feature is needed

Do you know if ZFS on Linux is going to adopt compatibility with feature flags? I have been keeping an eye on that project a bit as I really like where that could go. As much as I like Solaris, Linux has a few things I would like to use also.

I have no current infos but FreeBSD and Linux use Illumos as source too.
So yes, I expect a common set of features on all ZFS OS's (maybee beside Solaris 11)

Feature flags is the future of ZFS allowing to implement all the missing features like
encryption, raid-level conversion, vdev expansion, ashift modification, remove vdevs etc
without the need to keep compatibility. With Illumos as the upstream for all free ZFS efforts,
we can expect a common set of features to preserve interoperability between them
in a similar manner like we had with the Sun/Oracle based ZFS versions up to V28.
