My new 64 core EPYC workstation ROARS to life!

With enough cores and flops for the entire family and more to spare

Build was almost derailed becuase lack of EPYC compatible CPU cooler in Toronto Canada....found the ONLY one in all of Ontario on Friday....Everything housed in a Lian-Li PCV-2120x case that I bought in 2013 which will last for many many more years to come!

This thing DEMOLISHES my old Dual CPU XEON platinum (2x28cores) and consumes 200W less power and I can run it 100% load without turning my room into a sauna!

Radeon and GFX RTX in the same box..? How well do the drivers play these days?

nice build, but....72°C for cpu. i wonder how hot your VRM runs...they are mostly 10-15°C hotter.

why don't you put the first fan to the other side of the cpu cooler ?? because rigth now your first fan puls hot air from RTX card. or maybe put 3rd fan on the cpu cooler block.

but after all, nice beast -)

VRM is at 87C under load. There is no way for me to change the fan orientation

auch, 87°C is very high. any possibity to put some 40*40*10mm fan on it ?? i know that 40mm fan doesn't have much airflow, but it is better than nothing.

and for cpu fan...i know you use server mainboard, so i know you cann't change the orientation of your fans. what i mean: leave the cpu cooler metall block as it is now, but just change the place of the fan, so it doens't take up the hot air from graphic card.

Thanks for the tip yeah 87C is a bit too much since during daytime my room temp will rise pushing it closer to 100C. I placed a thin noctua 120 mm fan on top of the video card pointing directly at the VRM and the RAM banks. Now its a nice a temp of 56C

As for the fans, there is not that much options But max load of 72C is not bad at all for a 200W monster. My 3950X tops out at 85C but its using a smaller noctua cooler.

Very nice rig TJ !!
I sent my 3990X back to Patrick and run the 24 core version here now on a ASUS Zenith II Extreme. I really enjoy all the NVMe options on the board, plus all that x16 PCIe slot action.

I must admit tho., a few days ago I was looking at 3990x's thinking I would like to return to one, its hard to justify tho. But I did love that chip

when my epyc VRM gets about 70°C i am anxious (dual 7551 with h11dsi rev.1.01 board).
why ?? i dont know.

at room temps of around 39°C my setup has:
- 65° C for cpu under full load (boinc and world community grid)
- 70° C for VRM with 2 small fans (40*40*10mm with the biggest airflow available on EU market)

my build is installed in open frame rig (mining rig)

why ?? i dont know.

Don't worry about 70C, VRMs are rated to run at very hot (95C) temp without issues

Very unlikely especially for full retail parts. Mind you my XEONS that I sold aren't even retail parts that are found on Intel ARK and still fetch USD$1100+

@traderjay What drivers are u using for the AMD cad? And how did you get them installed? I have an RX 580 that I cannot get the drivers installed. I get the dreaded error 182 When i use the package from AMD - the adrenalin.

Just the latest compatible driver I found on AMD website...I installed the nvidia card driver first.

Congratulations, that looks like quite the beefy server. But seriously, man... you can't just show that blue carpeted furniture dolly and not explain I'm guessing the server case freely rolled around on the hardwood floor without it?

To be perfectly fair, I am sure there would be comments about my Edsal shelving unit "rack" for the servers and network gear.
