btw, what kind of external enclosure were you looking at ? Totally new here to external drive cages but I'm looking for a 2-3u short depth rackmount enclosure.
I’m going to buy an off the shelf 6 or 8 bay sas enclosure. Something from Amazon, nothing too fancy. It will be powered by an external power brick that has molex or sata power plugs. I prefer the enclosures that have individual breakouts for each sas or sata cable. They are cheaper than a single cable solution. There are less hard drive racks that support a single cable to a backplane.

So because I want something cheaper and off the shelf, it’ll probably be an icy dock variant or silverstone solution.

Hello everyone, since this post served me a lot of useful information Iam going to try to squeeze a bit more. I love the machine, but as many others have "problems" with the cooling system, in my case is not temperature related but sound related, I really dislike the high pitch noise of laptop fans.

So Iam designing (in a very primitive way) a 3d printed bracked to attach one 140mm or 120mm fans to both sides of the machine to replace the tiny ones.

Iam in a roadblock though, because I can't find what kind of connector is the fan using, I tried contacting MinisForum and they gave me the pinout but not the standard. The furthest I went was find a lookalike, but Im pretty sure it's not exactly that. I also know they are 5v.

Anyone has any idea what are they?
Couldn’t you power the fans externally? I would, reducing the risk of overloading the fan header unless you knew for sure the header would support your fans.

I've determined that I have a bad MS-01. Before I contact support for a replacement, has anyone done this successfully? If so, does anyone have tips? If the answer is "they are going to resist," and the sale price is still on, I can order a replacement.

With what? You mean something like a usb to fan controller. I don't have an ms-01 in front of me to check, but the diagram he showed looks just like a regular fan header, or PH to fan adapter sometimes called a micro 4-pin or Micro PH 2mm to 4 pin fan header. And last would be CRJ micro to 4 pin fan header.
With the components on this board I would be really surprised if you could overload it.

Here are some thermal images with no fan and with a cheap 50mm fan from amazon (Gdstime GDB5010).
I 3D printed a mount for it. I was originally planning on making it friction fit the heat sink but I didn't have the card to measure, so I used 1 screw into the heatsink fins to attach it.

Where did you connect the power for the fan?

Quick question: anyone using a USB Coral TPU in an LXC on Proxmox?

It gets enough power from the USB-port and it is partially recognized:
$ lsusb
Bus 004 Device 004: ID 1a6e:089a Global Unichip Corp.

Looks like the drivers from Google are not included but also can't be installed/compiled: am stuck.

PCIe Cards Tested

Worked
(...)

  • Broadcom SAS3008 external (8e)
Just want to check, this is the SAS-9300-E with the Broadcom 3008 chip? 12Gb/s with 2 external SFF-8644 Ports.

Anyone using this beyond just testing? I'm concerned about temperature issues.

I was seeing temps in the 80s when I first got my MS-01.

I cleaned up the paste and put some of that PTM7950 Honeywell phase changing stuff on.

Last night I monitored it for 10 hours and the highest temp I saw recorded was 75 degrees.

Probably not running the same load you are, I was just watching TV on Plex and playing FFXIV.

Redoing the paste is def worth it
FWIW I applied liquid metal for the first time on my MS-01 CPU and it was not difficult, just take your time. CPU temps went down significantly (~10C).
Hey guys, may I ask how I can remove the heatsink? I unscrewed the 2 screws but it seemed to still be tightly secured. Just wanna make sure I ain't missing anything. TY

I did it last week, you can get to the 2 screws under the foam by pushing through the foam with a screwdriver instead of tearing off all the foam. You can feel where the wholes are quite easily. Leaves 2 small tears in the foam.

Anyone having issues putting a 25G NIC in? Trying to use an Intel 810 I have sitting around which is 4.0 x8 but seems to be not registering for full PCIe bandwidth:

root@pve1:~# dmesg -T | grep "ice 0000"
[Tue Jun 4 20:59:07 2024] ice 0000:01:00.0: The DDP package was successfully loaded: ICE OS Default Package version 1.3.36.0
[Tue Jun 4 20:59:07 2024] ice 0000:01:00.0: 15.753 Gb/s available PCIe bandwidth, limited by 16.0 GT/s PCIe x1 link at 0000:00:01.0 (capable of 126.024 Gb/s with 16.0 GT/s PCIe x8 link)

I'm also running 96G Crucial RAM, 2 Samsung 22110s RAID1, and 1 Samsung U.2 3.84TB all which has been stable for days. Just added the NIC today as preparing to build out the rest of my cluster and run CEPH across the U.2 via the 25G NIC. Wondering if anyone has suggestions or I need to revert to some ConnectX 4 Lx's
I have ConnectX-4 LX cards in both of my MS-01s and haven't had any issues.

Hey guys, do you know if a U.2->M.2 (NVME+SATA) splitter can be used with the supplied daughter board to split the U.2 space into two drives? Something this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002698505382.html + Ms-01 U.2 board? Idea is to have a Proxmox boot drive in a sata SSD and use the NVME for VM drives, leaving the other two drive M.2 slots for NFS VM.

I dont think that this card has plx chip, i think it can get either a Sata or a NVME ssd... i dont think it can have both.

Anyone had any issues with the i226-LM port not working? I was wanting to try out MeshCommander and I haven't got any activity lights on that port. There don't seem to be any setting in the BIOS to enable/disable it.

I think the idea is just to split the PCIE lanes (x4 in U.2) into 2 for nvme and 2 for SATA i guess. The product description on amazon states both drives can work at the same time.

I did take the advantage of prime shipping and got it from Amazon.ca. Problem is the direction of U.2 port is upside down on this board. So you can't plug it in and expect to put the fan back on. It kind of wedges at the M.2 ports. I am afraid to put this setup back in the motherboard and try anyway.
