I've acquired a couple of old SM chassis for home server work (moving the ZFS installation over from an ancient board which consumes 400W just idling) and as luck would have it, these have the old BPD-sas836el1 3Gb/s expanders in them instead of the sas2 versions.

These use the venerable LSI SASX28 chip but the driver is the same for all port variants.

These don't want to play nicely when cascaded from the existing sas2 expander, so I'm trying to find firmware but it's nowhere to be seen. The SAS2 version of the chip (LSISAS2X28) has FW in a number of places but trying to flash this to one of the expanders was a "really bad idea"

What I've got:

FW label says 55.01.07, but xflash says 55.01.05.00
Boot: 3.1
MFG 6.4

By all accounts there's a 55.03 or .04 variant which plays nicer with SAS2 uptreams

If someone could help out with the right fw images I'd be a very grateful mustelid
