LSA SAS Controller HBA support SATA Port Multiplier

I'm getting bandwith limited on SATA Controller cards - they are all PCI-E x2 so I'm looking at the PCI-E x8 LSI SAS HBA - do these support the SATA Port Multiplier?

Specifically the Marvell 88SM9715 port multiplier found in the Backblaze backplanes..

I'm looking at the LSI 9300-8i and 9207-8i

Confirmed with LSI (Broadcom) support.

Though I'm not sure if its a hardware or software limitation.

There is a patch to add SATA Port Multiplier support to libsas LKML: Xiangliang Yu: [PATCH 0/3] libsas: add support for port multiplier but it was never merged.
