It is interesting how AMD's CPUs found their way into OEM desktops, servers, but not so much into workstations (I checked Dell/HPE/Lenovo and all Workstations are intel based), despite Ryzen 9 represents clearly much better value and Intel can't even bring anything to match higher end Threadrippers. For example, Ryzen 9 3900x is cheaper than W-1290P and kills it performance-wise in non-AVX512 tests.

The Threadripper Pro was the first incursion @BoredSysadmin but that is what John was focusing on a bit in the commentary. You immediately think it is the same because of the consumer side. When companies buy, they are not building their own. Looking at T1 OEMs they are still all using Xeon.
